The Soul of Springtime
27th April, 4:00 pm to 30th April, 2:00 pm£370
A Retreat to Welcome the Season and Cultivate Spiritual Connection with Creation led by Brian Draper.
Nature isn’t just good for us. We’re part of it: created within the rhythms, seasons and cycles of God’s good Creation. Little wonder, then, that we can feel disconnected from our own ‘soulful nature’ when we’re cut off from the natural world; and that the soul can stir profoundly, when we step back outside to behold nature’s beauty and wisdom.
Brian will ask reflectively how the season of spring, within the overall patterns of the turning year, can help bring life and light to our path in these turbulent days. He’ll reflect, too, on what he’s learned – from a year’s worth of walks, about nurturing a spiritual connection, ‘communion’, with nature, whether in town or country: so that we are better able to lead lives, and to cultivate personal rhythms, which are more closely attuned to Creation, in a time of climate emergency.
Brian Draper is the co-author (with Howard Green) of Soulful Nature: A Spiritual Field Guide. He leads seasonal walking retreats (featured recently on Clare Balding’s Ramblings, Radio 4), writes a much-loved Advent and Lent e-mail series, curates labyrinth spaces for organisations, and is a regular presenter of ‘Thought for the Day’ on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. He has also written Soulfulness, Less is More, Labyrinth and What Matters Most? and has contributed regularly to U2.com since its inception. Brian is an honorary fellow of the University of Winchester, and associate faculty for the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity.
