Join us for an hour of enchanting classical music in our medieval chapel\, followed by the famous Launde Abbey Cream Tea. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDescribed by The Times – London as “…a flautist and a half…”\, Lisa Nelsen is internationally recognised for her versatility as a soloist\, chamber and orchestra member\, as well as an educator and mentor. Having participated in the 2024 Guinness World Record event with Donne’s “Let Her Music Play”\, new projects have included working with composers at MusicFest in Aberystwyth\, Cardiff University Music Department\, and an incredibly special concert in Oxford at the Jacqueline Du Pré Hall\, curated by Kenneth Hesketh and the Royal College of Music. Lisa performs and collaborates with artists such as Julian Metzger\, Michelle Santiago\, Eleanor Turner and Ahmed Dickinson Cardenas\, planning programmes together for the next 2 years. Lisa performed with the National Youth Concert Band\, premiering a new concerto for flute by Bill Connor. She has presented online concerts during the pandemic with her chamber ensembles and participated in the Tampere and E-Flute Festivals. Her contribution to the hashtag ‘100 Days of Practice’ on Instagram (four times!) was a means to improve her own consistency in her work and inspire onlookers to ‘have a go’. As Chair of the British Flute Society\, Lisa relished contact with the community of players around the country. The position offered opportunities to share in activities and chat through mutual interests in the flute. She’s a professor of flute at Junior Guildhall School of Music\, and is an Artist for Yamaha Classical Division International playing on a 14-karat 900-series flute.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGerman-born cellist Julian Metzger is a versatile and compelling musical voice whose career spans concerto playing\, chamber music and orchestral performance. Raised in a family where music was both vocation and inheritance—his father a music teacher and choral conductor\, his uncle a professional cellist—Julian began playing the cello at the age of four\, forging an early and enduring relationship with the instrument.His formative years led him from his native Bad Berleburg to England\, where he studied at Wells Cathedral School under Dr Ioan Davies\, former cellist of the Fitzwilliam String Quartet. He continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Stefan Popov\, later refining his artistry through private mentorship with Raphael Wallfisch. Along the way\, musical encounters with David Strange\, Steve Doane\, Yfrah Neaman\, Paul Roberts and Norbert Brainin further shaped his expressive depth and interpretative insight. \n\n\n\nAs a concerto soloist\, Julian brings intensity\, elegance and narrative clarity to the stage. He has appeared with a range of orchestras under conductors including Alexander Walker\, Adrian Brown and Jacques Cohen\, performing works from the central cello repertoire alongside lesser-known concertos by composers such as Tartini\, Monn\, Bridge\, Kabalevsky and Miaskovsky.  \n\n\n\nChamber music lies at the heart of Julian’s musical identity. He has collaborated with artists including Christopher Redgate\, Lisa Nelsen\, Giovanni Guzzo and Marco Fatichenti\, and has appeared at festivals such as the International Casals Festival\, Buckingham Summer Festival and Musicfest Aberystwyth. A committed advocate for ensemble music\, he founded the Metzger Ensemble and co-founded Enigma14 and the English String Trio\, exploring repertoire from intimate string works to adventurous mixed ensembles. \n\n\n\nAlongside performing\, Julian is a dedicated teacher\, working across leading schools and universities and maintaining a busy private studio. Many of his students now study at major conservatoires. Michał Ćwiżewicz\, an Uppingham School tutor\, is returning to the Abbey with his brother Filip\, as the Ćwiżewicz Brothers. \n\n\n\nJoin us for the perfect Sunday afternoon out…  \n\n\n\nWe look forward to continuing our Launde Abbey Concert Series throughout 2026\, bringing you intimate classical performances from the finest musicians. Join us for an hour of enchanting classical music in our medieval chapel\, followed by the famous Launde Abbey Cream Tea. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe duo Ćwiżewicz Brothers is a unique chamber ensemble of two British-Polish violinists. They have been performing together since 2014 but their music-making began a decade and a half earlier when 13-year-old Michał began teaching 2-year-old Filip. Their performances include their own arrangements of classical and folk music\, as well as hidden gems from the duo repertoire and new commissions from contemporary composers. They have collaborated with the Harlem Quartet\, and the Ognisko Ensemble and have performed together as soloists with the Górecki Chamber Orchestra. While they both separately studied with celebrated violinists\, their unusual musical upbringing also immersed them in the rich folk music of the Carpathian Mountains in Eastern Europe as well as the very different sound world of the Javanese Gamelan\, which they played at London’s Southbank Centre throughout their youth. Their varied musical interests have led to two new duo works: Delirium by Richard Birchall and Quartets for Two Violins and Balinese Gender Wayang by Nick Gray. Drawing on Polish Highlanders’ folk tunes and Szymanowski’s ballet The Brigands\, their own piece Tatra Melodies was premiered in Warsaw in 2015 together with dance and original choreography. \n\n\n\nMichał Ćwiżewicz has given concerts across Europe\, the Middle East and USA and his playing has been broadcast on BBC television\, live on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ and Polish national television.  He leads the Górecki Chamber Orchestra and Ognisko Chamber Ensemble and his recent recording Dance! as part of the Minerva Piano Trio has brought much critical acclaim. A sought-after teacher\, he is both a violin professor at the Royal College of Music and Head of Strings at Uppingham School.  He studied at the Royal College of Music\, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and with the Ysaÿe and Alban Berg string quartets.  Also studying at Imperial College\, he was awarded his Masters in Aeronautical Engineering in 2007.  He was presented to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace’s Young Artist’s Reception and has performed for HM King Charles III. \n\n\n\nFilip Ćwiżewicz is in demand as a soloist\, chamber musician and orchestral player. He has performed at Wigmore Hall\, Barbican’s Milton Court and live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’. He leads the Tempest Symphony Orchestra\, with whom he also has performed as a soloist in the Tchaikovsky and Sibelius violin concertos. He has performed recitals and as a soloist with an orchestra in the UK and in France\, Germany\, Italy\, Poland and South Korea. Born in London\, he was first taught by his brother Michał. His studies took him to the Purcell School of Music\, then as a student of Itzhak Rashkovsky at the Royal College of Music and most recently\, as a postgraduate student at the Kraków Academy of Music with Poland’s foremost soloist\, Kaja Danczowska. His recent prizes include the 1st Prize and Grand Prix at the 2022 National Competition of Caprices in Poland\, the Kraków Music Academy Concerto 1st Prize\, and the 3rd Prize at the 2020 Agustin Aponte International Music Competition in Tenerife 2020. \n\n\n\nLaunde Classical Concerts offer the chance to hear an hour-long live concert in the company of some of the country’s leading performers\, followed by a gorgeous Launde cream tea. \n\n\n\nA Launde Abbey Fundraising Event. \n\n\n\nTickets £22 (or £17 for concert only). Join us for an hour of enchanting classical music in our medieval chapel\, followed by the famous Launde Abbey Cream Tea. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEIRA LYNN JONES \n\n\n\nAcclaimed Welsh harpist Eira Lynn Jones combines the three strands of her illustrious career as performer\, teacher and composer. \n\n\n\nHer harp adventures have taken her all over the world: to the Hollywood Bowl; a Recital in Reykjavik\, Iceland for the Nordic Watercolour Society; playing for the then HRH Prince Charles in Spain and tours to Japan\, Hong Kong and USA. \n\n\n\nShe has regularly performed with the Hallé\, BBC Philharmonic and Opera North. More eclectic engagements include: recording with the Black Dyke Brass Band and the heavy metal band Venom; accompanying Aled Jones on Songs of Praise; directing 20 harps under Dippy the Dinosaur at London’s Natural History Museum; appearing as harpist Lucinda Jane Gray in two episodes of Coronation Street. \n\n\n\nCollaborating with composer Martin Ellerby has resulted in a series of recordings: Three Choral Psalms with Kantos Chamber Choir\, Concerto for Clarinet\, Harp and Strings with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and a new CD of harp music\, Voyages. \n\n\n\nWidely recognised as one of the UK’s leading harp teachers\, she was Head of Harp at the Royal Northern College of Music for nearly 30 years. She has given masterclasses in South Africa\, USA\, Iceland\, Denmark\, Sweden and Greece. \n\n\n\nAs a composer\, she is inspired by the stories around her\, from medieval tales to contemporary events. She was selected as composer for Illumine Theatre’s audio drama Tremolo.
