SUMMARY:Lenten Meanderings
DESCRIPTION:As Lent invites us into a time of reflection\, take a couple of hours to step outside\, put on your coat and boots\, and meander through God’s creation. This is an opportunity to pause\, notice\, and listen—to slow down and be present. As you walk\, take time to reflect on the season of Lent\, a journey of preparation\, renewal\, and drawing closer to God. Using all your senses\, be open to what He might be saying through the beauty and stillness around you. We will also attend midday prayer with the Launde community in the Augustine Chapel. This price includes a wonderful soup lunch and roll in the Dairy Tea Room café. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis guided walk will be led by Jo de Graaf. \n\n\n\nJo lives in Harby in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir with her husband\, Cor. They have five children and Jo is a very proud Oma to 10 grandchildren\, who bring the family such joy. A few years ago she felt God prompting and calling her to some form of ministry. Jo believes her ministry is to bring people into God’s Kingdom through love; using contemplative spirituality\, hospitality and service of all kinds to help people feel a sense of wholeness within the love of God. Not only is Jo one of our volunteer chaplains\, but is now the Associate Minister in the Parish of Old Dalby\, and also Lay Chair of Framland Deanery. \n\n\n\nThis walk is planned to begin at 10:00 am. Meet at the front of the main house. \n\n\n\nSuitable for all abilities. Alternative activities are available if the weather is wet. \n\n\n\nPrice: £10 per person. Places are limited to groups of 12\, so please book in advance.  \n\n\n\nFor more information or to book your place call 01572 717254 or email info@launde.org.uk

SUMMARY:Heart of my own Heart

SUMMARY:Classical Concert and Cream Tea: The Ćwiżewicz Brothers - Violin Duo
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the perfect Sunday afternoon out…  \n\n\n\nWe look forward to continuing our Launde Abbey Concert Series throughout 2025\, bringing you intimate classical performances from the finest musicians. Join us for an hour of enchanting classical music in our medieval chapel\, followed by the famous Launde Abbey Cream Tea. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe duo Ćwiżewicz Brothers is a unique chamber ensemble of two British-Polish violinists. They have been performing together since 2014 but their music-making began a decade and a half earlier when 13-year-old Michał began teaching 2-year-old Filip. Their performances include their own arrangements of classical and folk music\, as well as hidden gems from the duo repertoire and new commissions from contemporary composers. They have collaborated with the Harlem Quartet\, and the Ognisko Ensemble and have performed together as soloists with the Górecki Chamber Orchestra. While they both separately studied with celebrated violinists\, their unusual musical upbringing also immersed them in the rich folk music of the Carpathian Mountains in Eastern Europe as well as the very different sound world of the Javanese Gamelan\, which they played at London’s Southbank Centre throughout their youth. Their varied musical interests have led to two new duo works: Delirium by Richard Birchall and Quartets for Two Violins and Balinese Gender Wayang by Nick Gray. Drawing on Polish Highlanders’ folk tunes and Szymanowski’s ballet The Brigands\, their own piece Tatra Melodies was premiered in Warsaw in 2015 together with dance and original choreography. \n\n\n\nMichał Ćwiżewicz has given concerts across Europe\, the Middle East and USA and his playing has been broadcast on BBC television\, live on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ and Polish national television.  He leads the Górecki Chamber Orchestra and Ognisko Chamber Ensemble and his recent recording Dance! as part of the Minerva Piano Trio has brought much critical acclaim. A sought-after teacher\, he is both a violin professor at the Royal College of Music and Head of Strings at Uppingham School.  He studied at the Royal College of Music\, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and with the Ysaÿe and Alban Berg string quartets.  Also studying at Imperial College\, he was awarded his Masters in Aeronautical Engineering in 2007.  He was presented to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace’s Young Artist’s Reception and has performed for HM King Charles III. \n\n\n\nFilip Ćwiżewicz is in demand as a soloist\, chamber musician and orchestral player. He has performed at Wigmore Hall\, Barbican’s Milton Court and live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’. He leads the Tempest Symphony Orchestra\, with whom he also has performed as a soloist in the Tchaikovsky and Sibelius violin concertos. He has performed recitals and as a soloist with an orchestra in the UK and in France\, Germany\, Italy\, Poland and South Korea. Born in London\, he was first taught by his brother Michał. His studies took him to the Purcell School of Music\, then as a student of Itzhak Rashkovsky at the Royal College of Music and most recently\, as a postgraduate student at the Kraków Academy of Music with Poland’s foremost soloist\, Kaja Danczowska. His recent prizes include the 1st Prize and Grand Prix at the 2022 National Competition of Caprices in Poland\, the Kraków Music Academy Concerto 1st Prize\, and the 3rd Prize at the 2020 Agustin Aponte International Music Competition in Tenerife 2020. \n\n\n\nLaunde Classical Concerts offer the chance to hear an hour-long live concert in the company of some of the country’s leading performers\, followed by a gorgeous Launde cream tea. \n\n\n\nA Launde Abbey Fundraising Event. \n\n\n\nTickets £22 (or £17 for concert only). SUMMARY:Holy Week with the Launde Abbey Community
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHoly Week at Launde Abbey: a retreat with the Launde community \n\n\n\nStay and pray as part of the Launde Abbey Community in Holy Week.  \n\n\n\nMonday 14 April MC — Sunday 20 April Lunch \n\n\n\n“Something strange is happening\,” wrote Epiphanus of Cyprus in the fifth century; “there is a great silence on earth today\, a great silence and stillness. Christ has gone to search for our first parent\, saying: Rise from the dead\, for I am the Life of the dead. Rise up\, work of my hands\, you who were created in my image. Rise\, let us leave this place\, for you are in me and I am in you; together we form only one person and we cannot be separated.” \n\n\n\nFor two millennia Christians have marked Holy Week by revisiting and reflecting on the momentous events of that ancient Passover: Jesus in the temple\, the upper room\, the garden\, at Calvary\, outside the opened tomb. During this year’s Holy Week\, the Launde community will be following Luke’s telling of the story through prayer\, worship\, reading\, meditation\, silence and song. And we’d love you to join us. \n\n\n\nWe’re inviting you to come for as much or as little of the week as you can: perhaps just a single day of quiet\, or two or three days of retreat\, or for the whole week. Every day there will be worship and prayer in the Chapel\, meals shared with members of the community\, opportunities for pastoral conversations with community members\, and plenty of time and space for silence and reflection. Some of the services will also be opened up to members of local rural churches to share our worship. \n\n\n\nOn Easter Sunday we’ll celebrate together at the start of the day and share breakfast; after that you’re welcome either to head home\, or to join one of our local churches and come back to us for a hearty Sunday lunch. \n\n\n\nThe week will be structured around our shared services (those marked with an asterisk* are open to local residents): \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonday (14 April): Cleansing: A House of Prayer for All \n\n\n\nLuke 19.41—20.19 \n\n\n\nThe Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple (Mal 3.1) \n\n\n\n8am Morning Prayer; 12pm *Midday Eucharist; 5pm Evening Prayer \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday (15 April): Controversy: The Wisdom of God \n\n\n\nLuke 20.20—21.4 \n\n\n\nThe stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone (Ps 118.22) \n\n\n\n8am Morning Prayer; 12pm *Midday Eucharist; 5pm Evening Prayer \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday (16 April): Catastrophe: The Shape of Things to Come  \n\n\n\nLuke 21.5-38 \n\n\n\nThe time has come for the judgement to begin with the household of God (1 Pt 4.17) \n\n\n\n8am Morning Prayer; 12pm *Midday Eucharist; 5pm Evening Prayer \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaundy Thursday (17 April): Communion: Drawn into the Heart of God \n\n\n\nLuke 22.1-23 \n\n\n\nI am the bread of life. SUMMARY:Look at the Birds: A Birdwatching Retreat **FULLY BOOKED**
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJesus told his followers to “look at the birds of the air” and Mark Winter as a keen birdwatcher has spent a lifetime following that teaching. Since 2004 Mark has helped others to look at birds   on his Even Sparrows retreats on Holy Island\, and he continues to marvel at how birds teach us about God’s love. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe welcome Mark back to Launde for the 5th year running to lead another birdwatching retreat. On each retreat people have discovered that we have so many birds locally to see\, hear and learn from; last year’s impressive total of 76 different species included Osprey\, Hobby\, Cuckoo\, Lesser Whitethroat and Garden Warbler. Come and see these birds for yourself and enjoy a time of quiet Celtic Christian worship\, biblical reflections and guided birdwatching walks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMark’s book\, Look at the Birds of the Air\, brings to life the role of birds in the Bible. He explores their importance to individuals like Noah\, Moses and Elijah and their frequent mention in prophecy\, wisdom literature and the Psalms. Above all\, Mark considers the significance of birds like the raven\, eagle and dove to Jesus himself\, as well as the lessons we can learn from birds as his followers today. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\n\n\n\nRetreat price: £495 (standard room) or £540 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £465 (standard room) or £510 (character room) if booked by 11th February 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. It may be possible for you to extend your stay with us by adding an extra night before or after this retreat. SUMMARY:June Quiet Day: "How then should we pray\, Mary Oliver?"
DESCRIPTION:In her poem ‘Sometimes’\, Mary Oliver provides “Instructions for Living a Life”. These are:  Pay Attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary found salvation in the natural world; salvation from poverty and an abusive childhood home. Walking with us\, she will invite us to pay attention to ourselves; to our world; to the transcendent and to others. All these things allow us to become more intensely human. And to pray. \n\n\n\nThis Quiet day will be led by Revd David Harknett\, one of our College of Chaplains here at Launde Abbey. \n\n\n\nQuiet Day price: £46 includes lunch and coffee and tea throughout the day.Why not think about extending your time at Launde by staying overnight after the event.  Check for availability and a quote when you contact us. \n\n\n\nYes – I’d like to take part in this Quiet Day! SUMMARY:The Sound of Musings
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpend an encouraging and inspiring retreat with Maria the ‘flibbertigibbet’ nun turned governess as she discovers the life she was born to live. The Sound of Musings Retreat is inspired by the much-loved\, iconic musical and offers profound and accessible insights into life\, love and faith. Prompted by the songs\, characters and stories in the film\, Bryony will lead us on our own journey of faith – it will be biblical\, authentic and quite a lot of fun. We will probably even make our own sounds of music too! \n\n\n\nIn 2025\, the iconic film The Sound of Music will celebrate 60 years since its release. Based on the excitement of previous film anniversaries\, this diamond anniversary will no doubt generate a lot of national and international interest\, making 2025 a great year to host a themed retreat. \n\n\n\n‘The Sound of Musings’ is a devotional book written by Bryony Wood\, published by Instant Apostle in May 2023 and is now offered as a themed retreat. \n\n\n\nSummary of the book – the ‘Blurb’ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n‘The Sound of Musings deftly traces Maria von Trapp’s journey through the iconic film\, The Sound of Music. Dancing from scene to scene with the captivating and much-loved\, ‘flibbertigibbet’ nun turned governess\, author Bryony Wood draws out profound and accessible insights to encourage our own journey of faith. \n\n\n\nBryony holds true to the film’s spellbinding spirit and inspiring script. Prompted by the songs\, story\, and characters of the film\, each short chapter looks at different aspects of life\, love\, and faith to help us discover more about God’s love in our own lives. It’s inspiring\, biblically rooted\, honest and quite a lot of fun! \n\n\n\nSo\, as Maria would say\, let’s start at the very…(you know where!)’ \n\n\n\nAbout Bryony \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRevd Bryony Wood is a priest in the Church of England\, ‘Sound of Music theologian’\, speaker\, broadcaster and author of The Sound of Musings. \n\n\n\nShe served as a Vicar in Great Bowden (Market Harborough Group of churches 2017-2020)  so knows and loves the Leicestershire area. \n\n\n\nIt was at Launde Abbey that she was first inspired to develop a Sound of Music-themed Bible study- which then ‘evolved’ into the Sound of Musings book/bible study. \n\n\n\nSome kind words: \n\n\n\nJeff Lucas\, Author\, Speaker\, and Broadcaster says: \n\n\n\n“A brilliantly creative way to explore vital themes that emerge from a classic film\, Bryony’s writing is heartwarming\, winsome and encouraging. Buy the book and enjoy a delightful journey.” \n\n\n\n Rt Revd Martyn Snow Bishop of Leicester says: \n\n\n\n“I have many happy memories of watching the Sound of Music with my children – it became the soundtrack to several family holidays. So I encouraged Bryony to write her own “musings” as a fun way of helping others reflect on life\, faith and their “favourite things”. Bryony has a beautiful style of writing which will help anyone find God in the ordinary.”     \n\n\n\nRevd Canon Michael Mitton\, writer\, spiritual director\, speaker\, Canon Emeritus Derby Cathedral says: \n\n\n\n“Bryony’s inspiring work on this much-loved musical draws out beautiful insights into the many and varied themes contained in the Von Trapp story. Anyone viewing the film after reading this book will find they won’t just be watching a movie but will be embarking on an adventure with God!” \n\n\n\n Tony Horsfall\, author and retreat leader says: \n\n\n\n“In this joy-filled book\, Bryony has taken a familiar musical film and shown us how it speaks of God. Storylines and songs alike become windows to a deeper dimension\, carefully crafted and beautifully written. A book to inspire and uplift\, read it for yourself and buy it as a gift for someone special.” \n\n\n\n Revd Kate Bottley Broadcaster and Anglican Priest says: \n\n\n\n“Bryony writes with humour and warmth as well as insight. You’ll never be able to watch singing nuns in quite the same way.” \n\n\n\nFeedback from previous ‘The Sound of Musings’ retreats: \n\n\n\n“Bryony’s programme was brilliant – I really enjoyed how she linked scenes from the film with our Christian life.  In particular\, she has given me food for thought regarding my pastoral role in our church.” \n\n\n\n“Bryony’s talks were so encouraging – we should “live the life we were born to live” – be what God intends us to be.” \n\n\n\n“The friendliness and sharing and meeting people from different jobs and personalities.  The Sound of Musings – a wonderful experience.  If you do it again I will encourage people to come\, but for the above\, as well.” \n\n\n\nRetreat Price: £620 (standard room) or £680 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £580 (standard room) or £640 (character room) if booked by 24th March 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. It may be possible for you to extend your stay with us by adding an extra night before or after this retreat. SUMMARY:Contemplative and Charismatic: A Rooted and Grounded Retreat
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContemplative and Charismatic: A Rooted and Grounded Retreat \n\n\n\nA retreat hosted jointly by Renovaré Britain & Ireland (renovare.org.uk) and the Launde Abbey community (laundeabbey.org.uk)  \n\n\n\nContemplative and charismatic churches look\, on the surface\, to be poles apart: one tradition emphasises silence and reflection\, the other leans more into energetic worship and spiritual gifts. But at heart they both emphasise an intimate\, direct relationship with God through the Spirit. They’re like two very different streams flowing into a shared lake. \n\n\n\nIn this Rooted and Grounded retreat we’ll be taking time to explore these two streams in depth. As always\, we’ll tap into the rich wisdom and experience of a wide variety of thinkers and practitioners\, past and present. We’ll take time to find rest and refreshment in prayer\, worship\, silence and rest. And we’ll explore a wide range of spiritual practices you can take away with you to deepen your life of faith. \n\n\n\nThis retreat is open to anyone who wishes to participate\, but it does assume you have a good understanding of the Renovaré teaching about spiritual formation — either through taking part in a previous Rooted and Grounded retreat\, or in a similar Renovare event\, or from study of Richard Foster’s Streams of Living Water. If this material is new or unfamiliar\, why not consider coming on our next Rooted and Grounded retreat in October 2025? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoy is a Companion and one of the founders of the Northumbria Community. He has served as a past President of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and is a founding member of Renovare Britain and Ireland. A popular conference speaker\, writer\, retreat leader\, pioneer mentor and spiritual director\, Roy is passionate about encouraging people to love God\, listen well\, think deeply\, and live authentically and generously. He is an associate with the Northumbrian collective and The Commons Cooperative. He is married to Shirley and lives in their beloved Northumberland. They have four children and eight grandchildren. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlison came to Launde Abbey having been a Team Rector in rural ministry in Cambridgeshire.  She has crafted and led many reflective services and gatherings using spoken word\, music\, silence and creative prayer stations.  She is also an experienced workshop leader and mentor\, combining spirituality and theology with the practical challenges of leadership\, team-working and managing change\, informed by her working life before she was ordained as well as theological study and lifelong faith.  Alison loves praying outdoors\, a good cup of coffee\, noticing the cycle of the seasons and encouraging a wondering faith. She lives with her family on-site at Launde Abbey. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChris Webb is an Anglican priest\, author\, speaker and teacher dedicated to helping people experience a richer walk with God by growing in prayer and the spiritual life. He has ministered in a wide variety of contexts: as president of Renovaré\, a spiritual formation ministry in the USA; as parish priest in Welsh farming communities and steelworking towns; and even in a church for the homeless. Chris is the author of two books: The Fire of the Word (2011) and God-Soaked Life (2017). \n\n\n\nRetreat price: £495 (standard room) or £540 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £465 (standard room) or £510 (character room) if booked by 13th April 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. It may be possible for you to extend your stay with us by adding an extra night before or after this retreat. SUMMARY:Thriving In Retirement
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis retreat is tailored for those approaching retirement\, as well as those already retired. \n\n\n\nJesus didn’t use the word ‘retirement’ and the period sometimes called ‘the third age’ can seem at the same time both attractive and scary. This overnight retreat\, led by Florence and Clive Morton\, is for those at any stage who want to think about life in this ‘third age’\, beyond paid employment or ministry. It is open to all. \n\n\n\nThe retreat will be using short talks\, prayers\, time for reflection\, music\, poetry and prose\, and simple acts of worship. There will be the opportunity for a short individual conversation with one of the leaders if you wish. \n\n\n\nFlorence taught English in a Scottish comprehensive school in the 1970s and 80s and then worked in the Voluntary sector for a decade. In 2001 she had a couple of strokes. After recovering\, she trained as a spiritual director. \n\n\n\nClive is a Professor Emeritus at Middlesex University and Canon Emeritus at Peterborough Cathedral. He is also a trustee of Cambridgeshire Workplace Chaplaincy. He is a civil engineer and holds a PhD in industrial relations from the London School of Economics and was appointed OBE for his contribution to business and the community in 1992. Clive and Florence also ran Umbrian Retreats for 12 years and they describe themselves as Anglo-Baptists. \n\n\n\nRetreat price: £185 (standard room) or £200 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £175 (standard room) or £190 (character room) if booked by Saturday 19th April 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. SUMMARY:Adrift in Delight: A Contemplative Intensive
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re offering this retreat at a reduced price due to short notice. Led by Revd Chris Webb. \n\n\n\nThe purpose of this retreat is to provide those who practice contemplation the time and space to deepen their practice (whether centring prayer\, Christian meditation\, mindfulness or some other approach). \n\n\n\nBy sitting together in supportive\, contemplative silence at intervals throughout the course of the day\, we will deepen our contemplative practice by immersing ourselves gently but generously into it together. We’ll provide space within us and among us to allow the silence of God to expand across the landscape of our hearts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn a series of short conferences\, we will reflect on how the great contemplative tradition speaks into our present experience\, helping to shape and deepen our contemplative practice. Drawing on the Desert Christians\, the Cloud of Unknowing\, Julian of Norwich\, John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila\, we’ll explore the inner noise that draws us away from our true selves\, the gentle reshaping of our intentions\, the problems of discouragement and darkness\, the awareness of Christ already within us\, and more. \n\n\n\nChris Webb\, Deputy Warden of Launde Abbey\, is an Anglican priest who has ministered as president of a spiritual formation ministry in the USA\, as a parish priest in Wales and in a church for the homeless. He is the author of two books: The Fire of the Word (2011) and God-Soaked Life (2017). \n\n\n\nRetreat price: £240 (standard room) or £270 (character room) with the option to have a pre-retreat stay on the Sunday night for an extra £95.00 (inclusive of lunch on the Monday before the retreat starts). \n\n\n\nPrice includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources.
