SUMMARY:June Quiet Day: "How then should we pray\, Mary Oliver?"
DESCRIPTION:In her poem ‘Sometimes’\, Mary Oliver provides “Instructions for Living a Life”. These are:  Pay Attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary found salvation in the natural world; salvation from poverty and an abusive childhood home. SUMMARY:The Sound of Musings
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpend an encouraging and inspiring retreat with Maria the ‘flibbertigibbet’ nun turned governess as she discovers the life she was born to live. The Sound of Musings Retreat is inspired by the much-loved\, iconic musical and offers profound and accessible insights into life\, love and faith. Prompted by the songs\, characters and stories in the film\, Bryony will lead us on our own journey of faith – it will be biblical\, authentic and quite a lot of fun. We will probably even make our own sounds of music too! \n\n\n\nIn 2025\, the iconic film The Sound of Music will celebrate 60 years since its release. Based on the excitement of previous film anniversaries\, this diamond anniversary will no doubt generate a lot of national and international interest\, making 2025 a great year to host a themed retreat. \n\n\n\n‘The Sound of Musings’ is a devotional book written by Bryony Wood\, published by Instant Apostle in May 2023 and is now offered as a themed retreat. \n\n\n\nSummary of the book – the ‘Blurb’ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n‘The Sound of Musings deftly traces Maria von Trapp’s journey through the iconic film\, The Sound of Music. Dancing from scene to scene with the captivating and much-loved\, ‘flibbertigibbet’ nun turned governess\, author Bryony Wood draws out profound and accessible insights to encourage our own journey of faith. \n\n\n\nBryony holds true to the film’s spellbinding spirit and inspiring script. Prompted by the songs\, story\, and characters of the film\, each short chapter looks at different aspects of life\, love\, and faith to help us discover more about God’s love in our own lives. It’s inspiring\, biblically rooted\, honest and quite a lot of fun! \n\n\n\nSo\, as Maria would say\, let’s start at the very…(you know where!)’ \n\n\n\nAbout Bryony \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRevd Bryony Wood is a priest in the Church of England\, ‘Sound of Music theologian’\, speaker\, broadcaster and author of The Sound of Musings. \n\n\n\nShe served as a Vicar in Great Bowden (Market Harborough Group of churches 2017-2020)  so knows and loves the Leicestershire area. \n\n\n\nIt was at Launde Abbey that she was first inspired to develop a Sound of Music-themed Bible study- which then ‘evolved’ into the Sound of Musings book/bible study. \n\n\n\nSome kind words: \n\n\n\nJeff Lucas\, Author\, Speaker\, and Broadcaster says: \n\n\n\n“A brilliantly creative way to explore vital themes that emerge from a classic film\, Bryony’s writing is heartwarming\, winsome and encouraging. Buy the book and enjoy a delightful journey.” \n\n\n\n Rt Revd Martyn Snow Bishop of Leicester says: \n\n\n\n“I have many happy memories of watching the Sound of Music with my children – it became the soundtrack to several family holidays. So I encouraged Bryony to write her own “musings” as a fun way of helping others reflect on life\, faith and their “favourite things”. Bryony has a beautiful style of writing which will help anyone find God in the ordinary.”     \n\n\n\nRevd Canon Michael Mitton\, writer\, spiritual director\, speaker\, Canon Emeritus Derby Cathedral says: \n\n\n\n“Bryony’s inspiring work on this much-loved musical draws out beautiful insights into the many and varied themes contained in the Von Trapp story. Anyone viewing the film after reading this book will find they won’t just be watching a movie but will be embarking on an adventure with God!” \n\n\n\n Tony Horsfall\, author and retreat leader says: \n\n\n\n“In this joy-filled book\, Bryony has taken a familiar musical film and shown us how it speaks of God. Storylines and songs alike become windows to a deeper dimension\, carefully crafted and beautifully written. A book to inspire and uplift\, read it for yourself and buy it as a gift for someone special.” \n\n\n\n Revd Kate Bottley Broadcaster and Anglican Priest says: \n\n\n\n“Bryony writes with humour and warmth as well as insight. You’ll never be able to watch singing nuns in quite the same way.” \n\n\n\nFeedback from previous ‘The Sound of Musings’ retreats: \n\n\n\n“Bryony’s programme was brilliant – I really enjoyed how she linked scenes from the film with our Christian life.  In particular\, she has given me food for thought regarding my pastoral role in our church.” \n\n\n\n“Bryony’s talks were so encouraging – we should “live the life we were born to live” – be what God intends us to be.” \n\n\n\n“The friendliness and sharing and meeting people from different jobs and personalities.  The Sound of Musings – a wonderful experience.  If you do it again I will encourage people to come\, but for the above\, as well.” \n\n\n\nRetreat Price: £620 (standard room) or £680 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £580 (standard room) or £640 (character room) if booked by 24th March 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. It may be possible for you to extend your stay with us by adding an extra night before or after this retreat. SUMMARY:Contemplative and Charismatic: A Rooted and Grounded Retreat
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContemplative and Charismatic: A Rooted and Grounded Retreat \n\n\n\nA retreat hosted jointly by Renovaré Britain & Ireland (renovare.org.uk) and the Launde Abbey community (laundeabbey.org.uk)  \n\n\n\nContemplative and charismatic churches look\, on the surface\, to be poles apart: one tradition emphasises silence and reflection\, the other leans more into energetic worship and spiritual gifts. But at heart they both emphasise an intimate\, direct relationship with God through the Spirit. They’re like two very different streams flowing into a shared lake. \n\n\n\nIn this Rooted and Grounded retreat we’ll be taking time to explore these two streams in depth. As always\, we’ll tap into the rich wisdom and experience of a wide variety of thinkers and practitioners\, past and present. We’ll take time to find rest and refreshment in prayer\, worship\, silence and rest. And we’ll explore a wide range of spiritual practices you can take away with you to deepen your life of faith. \n\n\n\nThis retreat is open to anyone who wishes to participate\, but it does assume you have a good understanding of the Renovaré teaching about spiritual formation — either through taking part in a previous Rooted and Grounded retreat\, or in a similar Renovare event\, or from study of Richard Foster’s Streams of Living Water. If this material is new or unfamiliar\, why not consider coming on our next Rooted and Grounded retreat in October 2025? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoy is a Companion and one of the founders of the Northumbria Community. He has served as a past President of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and is a founding member of Renovare Britain and Ireland. A popular conference speaker\, writer\, retreat leader\, pioneer mentor and spiritual director\, Roy is passionate about encouraging people to love God\, listen well\, think deeply\, and live authentically and generously. He is an associate with the Northumbrian collective and The Commons Cooperative. He is married to Shirley and lives in their beloved Northumberland. They have four children and eight grandchildren. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlison came to Launde Abbey having been a Team Rector in rural ministry in Cambridgeshire.  She has crafted and led many reflective services and gatherings using spoken word\, music\, silence and creative prayer stations.  She is also an experienced workshop leader and mentor\, combining spirituality and theology with the practical challenges of leadership\, team-working and managing change\, informed by her working life before she was ordained as well as theological study and lifelong faith.  Alison loves praying outdoors\, a good cup of coffee\, noticing the cycle of the seasons and encouraging a wondering faith. She lives with her family on-site at Launde Abbey. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChris Webb is an Anglican priest\, author\, speaker and teacher dedicated to helping people experience a richer walk with God by growing in prayer and the spiritual life. He has ministered in a wide variety of contexts: as president of Renovaré\, a spiritual formation ministry in the USA; as parish priest in Welsh farming communities and steelworking towns; and even in a church for the homeless. Chris is the author of two books: The Fire of the Word (2011) and God-Soaked Life (2017). \n\n\n\nRetreat price: £495 (standard room) or £540 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £465 (standard room) or £510 (character room) if booked by 13th April 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. It may be possible for you to extend your stay with us by adding an extra night before or after this retreat. SUMMARY:Thriving In Retirement
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis retreat is tailored for those approaching retirement\, as well as those already retired. \n\n\n\nJesus didn’t use the word ‘retirement’ and the period sometimes called ‘the third age’ can seem at the same time both attractive and scary. This overnight retreat\, led by Florence and Clive Morton\, is for those at any stage who want to think about life in this ‘third age’\, beyond paid employment or ministry. It is open to all. \n\n\n\nThe retreat will be using short talks\, prayers\, time for reflection\, music\, poetry and prose\, and simple acts of worship. There will be the opportunity for a short individual conversation with one of the leaders if you wish. \n\n\n\nFlorence taught English in a Scottish comprehensive school in the 1970s and 80s and then worked in the Voluntary sector for a decade. In 2001 she had a couple of strokes. After recovering\, she trained as a spiritual director. \n\n\n\nClive is a Professor Emeritus at Middlesex University and Canon Emeritus at Peterborough Cathedral. He is also a trustee of Cambridgeshire Workplace Chaplaincy. SUMMARY:Adrift in Delight: A Contemplative Intensive
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re offering this retreat at a reduced price due to short notice. Led by Revd Chris Webb. \n\n\n\nThe purpose of this retreat is to provide those who practice contemplation the time and space to deepen their practice (whether centring prayer\, Christian meditation\, mindfulness or some other approach). \n\n\n\nBy sitting together in supportive\, contemplative silence at intervals throughout the course of the day\, we will deepen our contemplative practice by immersing ourselves gently but generously into it together. We’ll provide space within us and among us to allow the silence of God to expand across the landscape of our hearts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn a series of short conferences\, we will reflect on how the great contemplative tradition speaks into our present experience\, helping to shape and deepen our contemplative practice. Drawing on the Desert Christians\, the Cloud of Unknowing\, Julian of Norwich\, John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila\, we’ll explore the inner noise that draws us away from our true selves\, the gentle reshaping of our intentions\, the problems of discouragement and darkness\, the awareness of Christ already within us\, and more. \n\n\n\nChris Webb\, Deputy Warden of Launde Abbey\, is an Anglican priest who has ministered as president of a spiritual formation ministry in the USA\, as a parish priest in Wales and in a church for the homeless. He is the author of two books: The Fire of the Word (2011) and God-Soaked Life (2017). \n\n\n\nRetreat price: £240 (standard room) or £270 (character room) with the option to have a pre-retreat stay on the Sunday night for an extra £95.00 (inclusive of lunch on the Monday before the retreat starts). \n\n\n\nPrice includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. SUMMARY:Into the Silent Land: Five-Day Meditation Retreat ***2 PLACES REMAINING***
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDue to high demand\, we are delighted to announce that we will be running this retreat again… \n\n\n\nInto The Silent Land: A Five-Day Meditation Retreat – 14th – 18th July 2025 \n\n\n\n“We are built for contemplation… Communion with God in the silence of the heart is a God-given capacity\, like the rhododendron’s capacity to flower\, the fledglings for flight\, and the child’s for self-forgetful abandon and joy.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith these words\, Martin Laird begins his classic book Into the Silent Land: The Practice of Contemplation – widely recognised as one of the best introductions to meditation in the Christian tradition written in generations. He brings together an engaging introduction to the Christian contemplative tradition for people inside or on the margins of the churches who feel drawn to the world of silent prayer. \n\n\n\nMartin Laird shows how silence and meditation can offer a remedy to many contemporary dilemmas and emotional struggles. Writing with great clarity\, poetic depth and authority\, Laird examines central meditative methods and traditions found within contemplative prayer. Exploring the role of breath in the spiritual life and the nature of awareness – so often associated in the minds of many with other spiritual traditions – he shows that this is also an ancient concern of Christian thinkers. \n\n\n\nInto the Silent Land offers profound insights for the student of silent prayer but is especially intended for the non-specialist who feels drawn to discover the deep wisdom of the Christian contemplative tradition. \n\n\n\nRetreat focus \n\n\n\nHow do we enter the “Silent Land” of Divine presence? \n\n\n\n“By the silence of surrender\,” says Laird: “The contemplative discipline of meditation…is not a technique but a surrendering of deeply held resistances that allows the sacred within to gradually reveal itself as a simple\, fundamental fact.”   \n\n\n\n“The more we realise we are one with God the more we become ourselves\, just as we are\, just as we were created to be. The Creator is outpouring love\, the creation\, the love outpoured.” \n\n\n\nIn this unique experiential retreat\, we will explore the essential skills and wisdom of the art of meditation as set out in ‘Into the Silent Land’\, including: \n\n\n\n\ncultivating gentle concentration (attentiveness) and the opening of awareness\n\n\n\nthe subtle challenges of stilling the mind and the interior skills to meet them\n\n\n\nhow our deepening silence reveals “the overflowing vastness” of our deepest identity in God\n\n\n\nbecoming windows of light and places of peace for the world\n\n\n\n\nThe retreat has been carefully crafted to be relevant and accessible to anyone searching for truth and peace\, regardless of their faith\, beliefs or previous experience of meditation. \n\n\n\nWords of support from Martin Laird \n\n\n\n“The School of Contemplative Life will surely rate among the most significant responses to the spiritual longings of the people of this nation and abroad [and] directly nourish and cultivate the depth-dimension of life through its well thought out programme of retreats\, guidance and other opportunities\, to the wellspring of silence and compassion flowing within.” \n\n\n\nSchedule \n\n\n\nA detailed timetable for the retreat will be sent to everyone attending. The retreat will start at 14:00 on the Monday and finish and 15:00 on the Friday and involve extended periods of meditation practice and silence. Each full day of the retreat will include: \n\n\n\n\n06:30 Sitting meditation & walking meditation\n\n\n\n08:00 Holy Communion (for those who wish to attend)\n\n\n\n09:00 Talk and sitting meditation\n\n\n\n10:30 Private practice time or small reflection groups\n\n\n\n12:30 Sitting meditation\n\n\n\n14:00 Private practice time or reflection groups\n\n\n\n17:00 Talk and sitting meditation\n\n\n\n19:30 Sitting meditation\n\n\n\n20:00 Group conversation\n\n\n\n\nEarly morning practice is a wonderful way to greet the day together. While we very much encourage everyone to attend the 6:30am practice session\, if this is difficult for you for any reason please don’t worry. It is always enough to do what we can – or what our life allows. \n\n\n\nOne-to-one spiritual counsel meetings are not counselling or coaching\, but provide a dedicated opportunity for someone to explore a question or two about their meditation practice\, or how practice relates to what they have heard during a talk or to daily life. Lasting approximately 15 minutes\, meetings are deliberately short to provide focus. \n\n\n\nAttending a silent retreat \n\n\n\nBeing on retreat is a precious opportunity to be still\, to be silent\, to practice living simply and peacefully and cultivate the gift of loving-awareness as we devote ourselves to the depth-dimension of faith and life. \n\n\n\nThe focus of the retreat is silent meditation practice and we will practice bringing loving-awareness to all our daily activities – while sitting\, while walking or eating\, when we are simply enjoying a glass of water. We will practice living each moment deeply. \n\n\n\nThe practice of silence will commence when the retreat begins at 14:00 on the Monday and continue until lunchtime on the Friday. Although the practice of silence may be new to some\, most people find this a powerful and wonderful experience. Maintaining a quiet and peaceful environment – walking\, moving\, and doing things quietly – is important for our practice and a gift we can offer to each other. \n\n\n\nThe retreat timetable includes periods of private practice time for sitting and walking meditation. Some people find it helpful to bring a craft activity to accompany times of private sitting meditation. If you decide to do this\, the craft should be very simple and not likely to stimulate thoughts. The Desert Fathers and Mothers were famous for weaving baskets! \n\n\n\nYou may wish to bring warm\, comfy clothes and a waterproof jacket/umbrella for walking meditation in the event of inclement weather. A notepad and pen will also be useful. \n\n\n\nRetreat Leader \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChris Whittington is the Founder of The School of Contemplative Life. He was introduced to contemplative practice during several years of formation when he lived at the Benedictine monastery of Prinknash Abbey. Chris’ monastic teachers\, including Sylvester Houedard OSB\, taught meditation as a universal wisdom found within all the great spiritual traditions\, a pathway to peace and solidarity with people of all faiths and none. Following an introduction by the Abbot of the Prinknash community\, Chris subsequently studied at the Dalai Lama’s monastery in Dharamshala\, India. Chris regularly delivers talks\, workshops and retreats and has introduced the practice of meditation in the Christian tradition to thousands of people in the UK and abroad. \n\n\n\nFor information about the School of Contemplative Life\, please visit: www.schoolofcontemplativelife.com OR https://www.youtube.com/@schoolofcontemplativelife  \n\n\n\nRetreat price: £620 (standard room) or £680 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £580 (standard room) or £640 (character room) if booked by 5th May 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. It may be possible for you to extend your stay with us by adding an extra night before or after this retreat. SUMMARY:Contemplative Photography Retreat: The Space Between 間
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a Photography and Spirituality retreat based around the premise that the photographer’s stance is a way of slowing down and being attentive to the world (as God’s sacred text) around and God’s presence and proclamation within it. We will be using themes from the Old Testament book of Song of Songs\, and Ignatian spiritual practices. There will also be an opportunity to explore poetry alongside photography. Cameras or camera phones will be useful\, but not essential. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMorna is Vicar of Finedon and Assistant Vocations Officer in the Diocese of Peterborough. She has significant experience in teaching and facilitating learning\, as well as leading retreats\, and is currently training to be a Spiritual Director. Morna has a keen interest in Contemplative Spirituality and\, having completed a research project which explored the use of photography as prayer which is missional\, she has developed a number of spiritual photographical practices based around Ignatian Spirituality. \n\n\n\nRetreat price: £495 (standard room) or £540 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £465 (standard room) or £510 (character room) if booked by 13th May 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. It may be possible for you to extend your stay with us by adding an extra night before or after this retreat. SUMMARY:August Quiet Day: Accepted in the Beloved - All Disciples Count!
DESCRIPTION:It is easy to be a discouraged disciple.  On this quiet day\, we will look at some of the different people Jesus chose as His disciples and how\, despite their limitations and faults He brought understanding\, healing\, and lasting fruit out of all their lives. Each and every one of them counted and was deeply loved. You may find you identify with one of those we consider\, or are simply encouraged to trust Him more fully to bring the best out of your own “individual” discipleship. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Quiet Day will be led by Rosey Feuell of Cherry Hinton. Rosey is an experienced leader of Quiet Days\, retreats and spiritually-centred workshops\, and also a Spiritual Director in Cambridgeshire and London. Ministry interests involve working with older people\, ways of praying and exploring Scripture.  Her leisure activities include travel\, walking\, reading\, music and poetry. \n\n\n\nQuiet Day price: £46 includes lunch and coffee and tea throughout the day.Why not think about extending your time at Launde by staying overnight after the event.  Check for availability and a quote when you contact us. \n\n\n\nYes – I’d like to take part in this Quiet Day! SUMMARY:August Saturday Quiet Day: GOD in the EVERYDAY **2 SPACES REMAINING**
DESCRIPTION:GOD in the EVERYDAY \n\n\n\nGod promises always to be with us\, wherever we go. This means we are always being held by God; held in his presence and enjoying his provision. God celebrates with us\, laments with us\, and walks with us through suffering. We will spend time together\, and individually\, reflecting on being held by God in the various ups and downs of every day life. The bible is full of stories of God being with\, and providing for\, people in all kinds of circumstances. We will engage with some of these stories through listening\, silence and prayer (and some optional creativity)\, as we seek to discover more of God’s abiding presence and provision with and for us today.  \n\n\n\n\nThis Quiet Day will now be led by the Revd Catherine Wright\, a member of the College of Chaplains at Launde Abbey. \n\n\n\n\nUnfortunately\, Revd Caroline Throup\, who was originally due to lead the retreat\, is now no longer able. SUMMARY:Classical Concert and Cream Tea: The Acer Clarinet Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the perfect Sunday afternoon out…  \n\n\n\nWe look forward to continuing our Launde Abbey Concert Series throughout 2025\, bringing you intimate classical performances from the finest musicians. Join us for an hour of enchanting classical music in our medieval chapel\, followed by the famous Launde Abbey Cream Tea. \n\n\n\nLate one-time offer: add a Sunday Carvery (main course-only) to your Concert & Cream Tea package and get the Cream Tea for free! \n\n\n\nAcer Clarinet Quartet\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Acer Clarinet Quartet comprises of Christine Taylor\, Verity Morris\, Anne Mortimer and Peter Fielding. Between them\, they can play 13 different clarinets (although not all at the same time)\, ranging from the small but powerful Eb clarinet\, through the Bb\, A and basset horn\, to the large and sonorous bass clarinet. Their repertoire is equally varied\, incorporating an entertaining mix of original pieces and well-known arrangements. In this concert\, they will be whisking you around the world with music from Europe\, America and the UK. Among the original compositions are fantastic quartets by Nigel Wood\, Paul Harvey and Clare Grundman. SUMMARY:'Celtish' Concert with Nigel Cameron and Julie Cameron-Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, 21st January\, where husband-and-wife duo Celtish will bring a rich blend of Celtic-inspired music to the Main Chapel for an evening concert as part of January’s ‘The Space: A Creative Retreat‘ here at Launde Abbey. Nigel Cameron (Irish whistles and percussion) and Julie Cameron-Hall (classically trained fiddle) are both accomplished singers\, songwriters and musicians\, performing original songs\, instrumentals and timeless melodies. \n\n\n\nTheir concerts are presented in two halves with an interval for refreshments\, combining uplifting and reflective music with stories inspired by Celtic Saints such as Patrick\, Brendan and Hilda. The evening promises warmth\, depth and moments of joy\, offering music that connects faith\, heritage and community. \n\n\n\nAbout CELTISH – Nigel Cameron & Julie Cameron-Hall \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHusband & wife musical duo ‘Celtish’ have toured extensively throughout the UK and beyond. They have appeared twice on Songs of Praise\, giving what the BBC called “A spine-tingling performance.”   \n\n\n\nThey have also recently been featured artists in two documentary films\,’ Celtic Rhythms’ (by Rebecca Friedlander) and ‘Love Speaks through St. Patrick’ (by  Carl Wesley Anderson). \n\n\n\nNigel plays Irish whistles & percussion; Julie (classically trained) plays fiddle; They both sing and write their own songs.  \n\n\n\nTheir concert performances include material from the albums ‘Lorica’\, ‘Journey’\, ‘Home’\, ‘Devotion’ and ‘Celtish (instrumental)’ albums. \n\n\n\n\n“A spine-tingling performance.” BBC Songs of Praise \n\n\n\n”Fearsomely talented. Beautiful and inspiring.” 10/10  Cross Rhythms \n\n\n\n “Overflows with dazzling musicianship. Deserves to be heard by the worldwide worshipping church.”***** Premier Christianity \n\n\n\n “Powerful and encouraging. Stunning and original. Hauntingly beautiful.” Bishop Richard Jackson \n\n\n\n “A real treat. Great musicianship\, beautifully recorded. Highly recommended.” Stuart Townend \n\n\n\n“This beautiful music ministered deeply to my soul. It is skillful and sincerely expresses deep spiritual truths.” Joanne Hogg \n\n\n\n“Wonderful… beautifully written\, arranged and performed.” Andy Park \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRecordings \n\n\n\nAs individual artists\, Nigel (Northern Ireland) & Julie (England) both have had many years of experience performing and recording music. Working together as a married couple since 2014\, they have recorded a total of six ‘Celtish’ albums\, but also produce music for other artists under their record label ‘Sounds of Wonder.’ They travel extensively using ‘Celtish’ as their band name as well as sometimes playing with other musicians including their classical improvisation group ‘Epiphany.’ \n\n\n\nConcertsPerformances by ‘Celtish’ usually take the form of a concert in two halves (with an interval for refreshments in-between) including a range of upbeat and reflective music\, instrumentals\, original songs and familiar lyrics set to timeless melodies. They usually share stories to introduce some of their songs\, including ones they’ve written about Celtic Saints including Patrick\, Brendan\, Columba\, Kevin\, Aidan & Hilda who all have amazing stories to tell about the spread of Christianity throughout these islands.  \n\n\n\nMission \n\n\n\nNigel & Julie write: “We hope that hosting a ‘Celtish’ concert in your venue can help build bridges between Church & community. The popularity of Celtic music and the uniqueness of our sound\, strongly featuring fiddle and whistles\, seems to give our concerts a wide appeal to audiences. We believe the music has power to bring healing and hope and there are usually one or two extravagant ‘joy-bursts’ in the programme. We also hope to dispel some myths about the ancient Celtic Saints” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets £10. SUMMARY:September Quiet Day: 'Creation sings the Father’s song' ***FULLY BOOKED***
DESCRIPTION:“Creation sings the Father’s song” – finding God’s presence in all of creation. \n\n\n\nAt the start of Creationtide\, the month in the Christian calendar particularly dedicated to God as the Sustainer of all life\,  come and spend a day amidst the beauty of God’s creation here at Launde Abbey. \n\n\n\nTake time considering how much of scripture talks about the nature of God in the natural world around us and how we can become more aware of and alive to it if we take time to notice. \n\n\n\nMirabai Starr wrote: “when we bless the ordinary with the gift of our full attention\, it brims over with holy light.”  \n\n\n\nAs part of the day there will be an opportunity to go on a “Soul Filled Meandering” with Jo around the grounds if you should so wish – a slow\, gentle\, contemplative walk in search of that “holy light”. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis quiet day will be led by Jo De Graaf\, one of our College of Chaplains. Jo lives in Harby in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir with her husband\, Cor. They have five children and Jo is a very proud Oma to 10 grandchildren\, who bring the family such joy. A few years ago she felt God prompting and calling her to some form of ministry. SUMMARY:The Practice of Joy: CS Lewis Retreat ***FULLY BOOKED***
DESCRIPTION:book now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn this Creationtide retreat\, we explore the topic of joy with C S Lewis\, author of the Narnia Chronicles (nature was one of the chief mediums through which joy came to him). We will explore the different aspects of the subject that he so delights in; finding joy in creation\, discovering how we can share the joy\, learning about different modes and manifestations of joy\, anticipating the joy of heaven\, and working out how joy could become our daily ‘practice’.  In his autobiography\, based around the concept of joy\, Lewis said ‘In a sense the central story of my life is about nothing else’. \n\n\n\nThis is a retreat for the refreshment of the spirit as Andy Swinford leads us on a deep dive into the joy-filled life and writings of C S Lewis (no prior knowledge needed!). The wind of joy breathes through both his stories and non-fiction and we will draw close to God by using the insights they provide as jumping-off points for our own experiences of joyous wonder. There will be space for reflection\, walking\, prayer\, and enjoying God’s wonderful creation in the beautiful grounds and surroundings of Launde Abbey. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAndy Swinford delivers multimedia presentations and online classes about C S Lewis\, as well as leading retreats on the spiritual enrichment to be gained from the writings of the two friends Lewis and Tolkien. He is the author of ‘The Practice of Joy: insights from the stories of C S Lewis’ (Grove) and a contributor to ‘The Christian Tradition in English Literature’ (Zondervan). He lives in Birmingham and is a former teacher of English Literature. Since retiring from teaching beekeeping has become one of his chief joys. \n\n\n\n Retreat price: £495 (standard room) or £540 (character room)EARLY BIRD RATE: £465 (standard room) or £510 (character room) if booked by 23rd June 2025!Price includes en-suite accommodation\, all meals\, and all retreat resources. It may be possible for you to extend your stay with us by adding an extra night before or after this retreat.
