|Description:||During this retreat we’ll be reflecting on contemporary and classical visual art, together with words from scripture and poetry, to journey through Holy Week alongside Christ.|
“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it,” wrote John the evangelist. The great paradox of the gospel is this: the journey of Jesus through Holy Week was a willing entry into the darkness of human suffering but in this darkness we can see light and hope. We will be using compelling images of the Passion by artists both famous and less well-known to enter more deeply into Christ’s story and our own, and to discover the possibility of light in the darkness.
Chris Webb is Deputy Warden of Launde Abbey and Diocesan Spirituality Adviser to the Diocese. An Anglican priest and member of a Benedictine new monastic community, he has ministered in a wide variety of contexts: as president of a spiritual formation ministry in the USA, as parish priest in Welsh farming communities and steelworking towns, and even in a church for the homeless. He is the author of two books: The Fire of the Word (2011) and God-Soaked Life (2017).
Cathy is Assistant Warden at Launde Abbey where she lives with her husband, Haydn. Cathy’s passion is prayer and exploring Christian Spiritual traditions, which has involved leading retreats in UK as well as Italy and France, countries where she has previously lived and worked.
