Daily Prayer

Above all else Launde Abbey is a place of prayer, and the daily rhythm of our Chapel worship lies at the very heart of all we do.

Listen as our Warden, Revd Alison Myers, shares more — Watch the video here.

There are three daily services in the Abbey’s Chapel, led by the community, to which all guests and visitors are welcome. There’s no dress code or reserved seating, prayer books are provided, and the service leader will guide everyone through every aspect of the service – so you won’t get lost! And if you’d prefer to just come, sit in the Chapel, and listen to the service without joining in, that’s perfectly fine too.

holy communion

Holy Communion (sometimes known as the Eucharist, Mass, or Lord’s Supper) is celebrated every morning at 8am. It’s a half-hour service in which we listen to scripture, pray for the life of the house, spend time in silence, and share in holy communion together. You’re welcome to receive the bread and wine with us regardless of the church denomination or tradition you belong to, or you can simply come and worship with us without receiving.

midday prayer

Midday Prayer is at noon, Mondays to Saturdays, and is a short 15-minute service of readings and prayer. At midday, we pray particularly for the life of the church, both around the world and more locally.

evening prayer

Evening Prayer is at 5:00 pm, Mondays to Saturdays, lasts about half an hour and also focuses on readings and prayer. It’s an unhurried service which includes prayers for the needs of our world and for those closer to us about whom we are concerned. We also remember all those who’ve asked for prayer from the community, either online or using the slips at the back of the Chapel.

Whether you’re with us on a personal retreat or you’re bringing a group, why not come and join in the community’s praying life while you’re staying at the Abbey?

(A footnote for those interested in this kind of detail: we use the Church of England’s Common Worship book at all our services, with readings drawn from the Daily Eucharistic Lectionary in the morning and the Additional Weekday Lectionary in the evening.)
