The Chapel & Prayer Spaces

Launde Abbey’s ancient Chapel is the beating heart of its community life and is always open to guests for personal prayer and silence. We hold three services every day to which guests are always welcome.

The St Augustine Prayer Room is right across from the Chapel, in a cellar space from the old monastic buildings. It’s an intimate and quiet space for individuals or small groups seeking space for undisturbed prayer.

Our Emmaus Chapel lies behind the Stables building. It’s an old converted pig barn – but don’t let that put you off! This tiny Chapel (it holds up to eight – friendly! – people) is a delightful place to spend time praying, especially on a warm summer’s afternoon.

The Open Air Worship Area is on the eastern edge of our site, behind the walled garden. With simple wooden benches and a wooden table, it provides the perfect space for groups to gather in a more natural environment and enjoy the gift of creation. It also incorporates a firepit – ideal for gathering around on cooler evenings!

The Grass Labyrinth is a huge path mown into the turf behind the walled garden. The edges of the path are lined with tall grasses and wild plants, and in the Spring they are scattered with daffodils. It’s a wonderful spot for a meditative walk, especially at sunrise.

A Stone labyrinth, considerably smaller than the grass one, lies tucked away in the woods to the north of the walled garden.
