Retreat FAQs

Whether you’re planning a personal retreat, to bring a group, or just having a look at what we can offer, this section will help you with what you need to know. If you have a question that isn’t answered here, feel free to email [email protected].

We welcome people with disabilities to the Abbey every week, and we'll do everything we can to make your stay here as wonderful as possible. Find out more here.

Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate pets during your stay with us here at the Abbey. Service dogs and other service animals, however, are of course always welcome.

We’d be delighted if you did! We’re happy to provide accommodation and appropriate meals for children of any age. It’s worth bearing in mind that there’s no playground or play area at Launde Abbey, and that we keep many of our indoor and outdoor spaces in silence or quiet — but if your children are ok with that, we’re more than happy to welcome them.

Yes — almost! We don’t usually take bookings for Sunday nights, so our resident staff get a chance for some rest, although we’re still open during the day on Sunday and Monday. We close the site to outside guests for a few days over Christmas to give space for the community to celebrate. And occasionally, we close the site to visitors if we have a particularly intense silent retreat taking place — the pre-ordination retreats in June would be a good example. If you’re in any doubt, check our website for details.

No. We’re a Christian retreat house in the Anglican tradition, and we’re delighted to offer the best of everything that means to every guest. But we welcome guests of all faiths or none to stay with us, to enjoy the peace and serenity, to receive our warm hospitality and, if you wish, to pray and worship with the community in our Chapel.

We offer silence as a gift, not a requirement! There’s plenty of opportunity for quiet, peace and stillness at Launde Abbey, but also for friendship and conversation. We keep certain areas of the Abbey in silence, and some of our programme retreats are silent (but we always advertise that in advance). You’ll find as much quiet as you want and as much companionship as you wish.

Yes, depending on your circumstances and the cost of the retreat you’d like to make. You can find more details and information about how to apply here.

Absolutely! We understand that everyone has different dietary needs, and we’re happy to accommodate allergies, intolerances, and personal preferences. Please inform us of any dietary requirements when booking, and our kitchen team will prepare suitable meals to meet your needs. We aim to offer a range of delicious, nutritious options to ensure all our guests feel well cared for.
