Every year Launde Abbey runs a full programme of retreats and quiet days alongside the other groups and individuals who come to make use of the retreat house. These retreats are open to all and offer a wonderful opportunity to experience the prayer, silence and tranquillity the Abbey offers while being led by a seasoned guide.
Our retreats are led by a variety of diverse and experienced retreat guides from all around the UK (and occasionally beyond!). They lead a wide variety of retreat styles: creative arts, silent retreats, individually guided, seasonal, gardening and nature, biblically themed, mindfulness retreats, labyrinths … the list is nearly endless.
If you join us on a retreat you can expect first-class hospitality (the price includes all meals and accommodation and any materials costs for the retreat), the opportunity to worship with the Abbey’s praying community, and access to all of the Abbey’s facilities, alongside the retreat itself.
Our retreats are open to anyone – beginners, seasoned retreatants, people of faith or not, at any stage of life, of any background. They usually have a strong Christian dimension (as you’d expect in a Christian retreat house) so it is important that you’re happy to participate in that. On our website, we indicate those retreats that would particularly suit beginners or those (perhaps more experienced) retreatants looking for a silent retreat or an individually guided retreat.
Quiet Days are essentially very short one-day retreats. We gather over coffee before some brief prayer and reflection in the Chapel. You’ve then got plenty of free time to pray, meditate, walk, or just enjoy the gardens before Midday Prayer and lunch. After another time of prayer and reflection in the Chapel the afternoon is free and ends with a brief service followed by tea and cake. It’s a great way to dip your toe in the waters at a retreat house or to find some regular short stops in your busy routine.
