Local Area Information

Local towns

Launde Abbey sits approximately 6 or 7 miles from both the market towns of Oakham and Uppingham where you can find a range of cafes, restaurants, shops, libraries, pharmacists etc.

Closer to the Abbey we are surrounded by beautiful countryside, with villages and hamlets all around us.

Walking/Running

There are various different public footpaths leading you in all directions, and we provide maps for a number of suggested local walks in Reception. Whether you are staying with us or just visiting our café, pop into Reception for more information.

We are a very short walk from the Leicestershire Round, a circular walking route taking in most of the County.  You can find out more here: Leicestershire Round | LFA

We are situated approximately 10 to 15 minutes from Launde Big Wood, and Launde Small Wood, both with walking paths running through them.  They were recognised as part of the Queen’s Canopy project in 2021 as ancient woodland, and are under the stewardship of the Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust. Launde Woods | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust (lrwt.org.uk)

For those that enjoy running the local footpaths/ bridleways/ lanes provide some fantastic trail running routes, with stunning views.

Cycling

We are approximately a 5-minute ride from national cycle routes 64 & 65 The National Cycle Network – Sustrans.org.uk

The local lanes and hills provide quiet but challenging roads for cyclists. Cycle maps < Choose How You Move
