Join us on Wednesday, 21st January, where husband-and-wife duo Celtish will bring a rich blend of Celtic-inspired music to the Main Chapel for an evening concert as part of January’s ‘The Space: A Creative Retreat‘ here at Launde Abbey. Nigel Cameron (Irish whistles and percussion) and Julie Cameron-Hall (classically trained fiddle) are both accomplished singers, songwriters and musicians, performing original songs, instrumentals and timeless melodies.

Their concerts are presented in two halves with an interval for refreshments, combining uplifting and reflective music with stories inspired by Celtic Saints such as Patrick, Brendan and Hilda. The evening promises warmth, depth and moments of joy, offering music that connects faith, heritage and community.

About CELTISH – Nigel Cameron & Julie Cameron-Hall

Husband & wife musical duo ‘Celtish’ have toured extensively throughout the UK and beyond. They have appeared twice on Songs of Praise, giving what the BBC called “A spine-tingling performance.”  

They have also recently been featured artists in two documentary films,’ Celtic Rhythms’ (by Rebecca Friedlander) and ‘Love Speaks through St. Patrick’ (by  Carl Wesley Anderson).

Nigel plays Irish whistles & percussion; Julie (classically trained) plays fiddle; They both sing and write their own songs. 

Their concert performances include material from the albums ‘Lorica’, ‘Journey’, ‘Home’, ‘Devotion’ and ‘Celtish (instrumental)’ albums.

Recordings

As individual artists, Nigel (Northern Ireland) & Julie (England) both have had many years of experience performing and recording music. Working together as a married couple since 2014, they have recorded a total of six ‘Celtish’ albums, but also produce music for other artists under their record label ‘Sounds of Wonder.’ They travel extensively using ‘Celtish’ as their band name as well as sometimes playing with other musicians including their classical improvisation group ‘Epiphany.’

Concerts
Performances by ‘Celtish’ usually take the form of a concert in two halves (with an interval for refreshments in-between) including a range of upbeat and reflective music, instrumentals, original songs and familiar lyrics set to timeless melodies. They usually share stories to introduce some of their songs, including ones they’ve written about Celtic Saints including Patrick, Brendan, Columba, Kevin, Aidan & Hilda who all have amazing stories to tell about the spread of Christianity throughout these islands.

The popularity of Celtic music and the uniqueness of our sound, strongly featuring fiddle and whistles, seems to give our concerts a wide appeal to audiences. We believe the music has power to bring healing and hope and there are usually one or two extravagant ‘joy-bursts’ in the programme. We also hope to dispel some myths about the ancient Celtic Saints”
